So, here's the situation with me. I was born in Norfolk, NE, took off to Memphis for college, then New York City, then Omaha and then back here in Norfolk for the last year and a half. I came back to Norfolk because of a great job opportunity. My career is important to me and jobs in the arts/museum industry are rare in Omaha. The ones that are available are taken by more qualified people. So coming here was huge for me. The hard part is that my husband and I own a house in Omaha and his job is amazing. So I live here, he's there and we see each other on weekends. So that's downside #1.
Downside #2: Norfolk is really designed for people with kids and people who like to stay inside. I love going out to interesting restaurants and bars, shopping and doing/learning new things. Norfolk is perfect for you if you like: football, fettucini alfredo and country crafts. There's a shit-ton of that here.
Are there others out there who struggle in their town? What are your struggles and how do you deal? Do you feel like you don't belong and what makes you feel that way?
